- Description
This is a book-building opportunity in the mid-corporate market, with the backing of a substantial independent broking platform and strong specialist support around you. The role can be based in Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol and would suit someone who already has a credible network, a proven record of generating new business and the ambition to build a meaningful portfolio rather than simply inherit and maintain one.
The opportunity
You will be given the freedom to develop your own book of mid-corporate commercial insurance clients, supported by experienced broking, claims, placement and specialist teams.
The business has significant reach across the UK and international insurance markets, with established operations in Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol. It combines regional client relationships with access to broader corporate, specialist and placement capability, which gives Account Executives a strong platform when competing for more complex mid-market risks.
This is not a role built around cold prospecting for small commercial cases. The focus is on developing higher-quality relationships, winning larger and more complex clients and building a portfolio that can grow over time.
What the role involves
You will take ownership of new business development within your chosen market, using your existing relationships, local network and sector knowledge to create opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and developing a portfolio of mid-corporate commercial insurance clients.
- Generating new business through your own network, referrals and professional relationships.
- Leading client conversations around risk, insurance strategy and programme design.
- Working closely with broking and placement specialists to secure appropriate coverage and terms.
- Developing long-term relationships with business owners, finance directors and senior decision-makers.
- Identifying opportunities to broaden client relationships across additional classes of insurance.
- Working with claims, risk and specialist teams to strengthen the overall client proposition.
- Retaining and developing the portfolio as it grows.
Who this role could suit
- This would suit an experienced Commercial Account Executive, Corporate Account Executive or Account Director who is comfortable with a genuine new business remit and wants the infrastructure to build something substantial.
- You will ideally have experience working with mid-corporate or larger SME clients and a track record of creating opportunities rather than relying solely on leads being passed across.
- A background across property, liability, motor fleet, management liability, cyber, professional risks or wider corporate insurance would all be relevant. More important is your ability to understand a client's wider risk position, bring the right specialists into the conversation and build relationships at senior level.
Why consider it
- The attraction here is the combination of autonomy and support.
- You are expected to build, but you are not expected to do everything yourself. The wider platform provides access to specialist broking, claims and placement resource, along with broader market relationships that can help when competing for more complex business. The business also has established corporate capability and a clear focus on continued growth in the mid-market space.
- There is also a clear emphasis on giving Account Executives ownership of their client relationships and the ability to develop a portfolio over time. Current recruitment material from the business specifically references building commercial portfolios through local market relationships, supported by account management, broking, claims and risk specialists.
Salary and benefits
- The salary range is £55,000 to £85,000, depending on experience, current market position and the strength of the book-building track record you bring.
