- Description
You would take over a portfolio producing around £200,000 to £250,000 in income, with clients generally sitting in the mid-corporate space at around £5,000 to £30,000 income per account. The book is weighted towards Fleet, Haulage and Transport business, although there is no requirement for you to come from a specialist transport background.
The opportunity
This is an established commercial insurance broking business with a strong corporate capability, broad insurer access and a reputation for combining specialist knowledge with relationship-led client advice. The wider platform includes dedicated corporate risk, claims and risk management capability, which gives Account Executives additional support when dealing with larger and more complex clients.
You will inherit a sizeable portfolio and be expected to retain, develop and gradually grow it rather than being handed an unrealistic new business number from day one.
The growth expectation is around 10%, which should give you room to focus properly on client relationships while still identifying new opportunities through referrals, cross-selling and selective new business development.
What the role involves
You will take ownership of an established portfolio of mid-corporate commercial clients, acting as the senior relationship lead and working closely with broking, claims and technical colleagues.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing an inherited book producing approximately £200,000 to £250,000 in income.
- Leading client relationships across a portfolio of mid-corporate businesses.
- Managing renewal strategy and conducting regular client reviews.
- Working with insurers and internal broking teams to secure appropriate cover and competitive terms.
- Developing existing accounts through wider insurance and risk management conversations.
- Delivering sustainable portfolio growth of around 10%.
- Identifying new business opportunities through referrals, professional relationships and your wider network.
- Supporting clients with more complex insurance requirements across multiple classes of business.
- Maintaining strong retention while developing the commercial value of the portfolio.
Who this role could suit
- You are likely to be an established Commercial Account Executive, Corporate Account Executive or Account Director with experience managing larger SME or mid-corporate clients.
- The portfolio has a noticeable Fleet and Haulage bias, so previous experience in transport insurance would clearly be useful. It is not essential, however, and the business is more interested in someone who is technically credible, commercially aware and comfortable handling clients producing between £5,000 and £30,000 in income.
- Experience across areas such as property, liability, motor fleet, goods in transit, management liability, cyber and wider corporate insurance would all translate well.
- You should also enjoy developing existing relationships. This is not purely a servicing role, but equally the expectation is not that you abandon the inherited book in pursuit of constant new business.
Why consider it
- The main attraction is the balance between security and opportunity.
- You are starting with a substantial existing book, which immediately gives the role commercial substance. At the same time, there is enough scope to develop those relationships, bring in additional business and grow the portfolio without being forced into an overly aggressive production model.
- The business itself has broad commercial insurance capability, including Corporate Risk, SME, Professional Risks and specialist sector propositions, alongside an established in-house claims function. That gives Account Executives access to a wider range of expertise when clients become more complex.
- Its existing transport and haulage proposition is also well developed, covering areas such as commercial vehicle, goods in transit, liability and wider supply-chain exposures, which fits naturally with the make-up of this particular portfolio.
Salary and benefits
- The salary is £60,000 to £75,000 depending on experience, alongside a £5,000 car allowance.
- More importantly, you are inheriting a £200,000 to £250,000 income book with a manageable growth expectation, giving you the chance to concentrate on retaining good clients and increasing the value of the portfolio over time.
