- Description
If you are already operating at Senior Account Executive or Account Director level and want to combine high-level client responsibility with a genuine leadership remit, this is an opportunity to step into a broader role without moving away from the technical side of commercial insurance.
You will lead and support a team of experienced client-facing professionals while remaining close to a portfolio of significant commercial and corporate clients. The role needs someone who can bring credibility with both clients and colleagues, particularly when dealing with complex insurance programmes, difficult renewals and wider strategic discussions.
The opportunity
This is a senior position with responsibility for both client delivery and people leadership.
You will provide direction to the team, help maintain a consistently high standard of client service and act as a technical point of escalation where required. Alongside this, you will continue to manage senior client relationships and contribute to renewal strategy, programme design and insurer negotiations.
For someone who has already taken on informal leadership, mentoring or management responsibilities, it offers the opportunity to make that a more established part of your role while retaining the client and technical exposure you have built your career around.
What the role looks like
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, supporting and developing a team of Client Executives and other client-facing colleagues.
- Managing relationships with a portfolio of larger and more complex commercial clients.
- Providing technical guidance on programme structure, coverage and placement strategy.
- Supporting colleagues with challenging renewals, negotiations and client issues.
- Maintaining strong relationships with senior client stakeholders and key insurer partners.
- Overseeing service standards across the team and ensuring clients receive consistent, high-quality advice.
- Conducting regular one-to-ones, providing coaching and supporting individual development.
- Managing workloads and helping ensure the team has the right support and resources.
- Working with senior colleagues across broking, placement and specialist areas to deliver broader solutions for clients.
- Contributing to the continued growth, retention and development of the wider portfolio.
Who this could suit
- You are likely to be an experienced Senior Account Executive, Account Director, Client Director or similar senior commercial insurance professional.
- Strong technical commercial insurance knowledge is essential, as you will need to be comfortable advising on complex risks and supporting other experienced professionals when more difficult issues arise.
- You should also have some previous management or leadership experience. This could be formal line management, responsibility for a small team or substantial experience mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues.
- The role will suit someone who enjoys leadership but does not want to become detached from clients. You will still be expected to bring commercial judgement, technical credibility and the confidence to deal with senior decision-makers.
The business
- You will be joining a major insurance and risk advisory business with the scale to support complex commercial clients and provide access to specialist expertise across a wide range of industries and insurance classes.
- The advantage at this level is the depth of resource available around you. You will be able to draw on specialist broking, placement and technical teams when required, while taking a leadership role within the local client team.
- There is also considerable scope for someone who wants to continue developing their management career within a larger and more sophisticated insurance environment.
Package and working pattern
- The salary is expected to be between £80,000 and £100,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider senior-level benefits package.
- The role is based in Bristol and operates on a hybrid basis, with an expectation of around three days per week in the office.
The next step
If you are operating at senior Account Executive or Account Director level and feel ready for greater leadership responsibility without giving up the technical and client-facing work you enjoy, it would be worth a confidential conversation.
I can talk you through the structure of the team, the level of management responsibility and the type of clients involved before you decide whether you want to explore it further.
