- Description
If you are an experienced commercial insurance Account Director who enjoys looking after established clients but would rather inherit a quality book than spend the next two years building one from scratch, this is worth a closer look.
Based in Doncaster, this role gives you an existing commercial client portfolio to take responsibility for. It should appeal to someone already operating at Account Director or senior Account Executive level who wants a role where strong client management, technical credibility and sensible growth matter more than constant prospecting.
The opportunity
You will take over an established book of commercial insurance clients and become their main senior broking contact, managing relationships properly and identifying opportunities to develop accounts where there is a genuine commercial reason to do so.
The wider business offers the scale and market access of a substantial national insurance group while retaining a strong regional broking presence and specialist commercial capability. That gives Account Directors a useful balance of resources, technical support and client ownership.
For someone who is well looked after where they are, the inherited book is likely to be the main reason to have a conversation. You are not walking into a role where the expectation is to manufacture a portfolio from a standing start.
What the role involves
- You will be responsible for the ongoing management and development of a portfolio of commercial clients, working with internal broking and handling support to make sure clients receive a consistently high standard of service.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing an established portfolio of commercial insurance clients.
- Leading renewal strategy and client review meetings.
- Building strong relationships with business owners, directors and senior decision-makers.
- Identifying appropriate opportunities to broaden existing client relationships.
- Working with insurers and internal broking colleagues to secure suitable coverage and terms.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of client businesses, exposures and changing risk requirements.
- Supporting retention and sustainable growth across the portfolio.
Who this role could suit
- This position is likely to suit an established Account Director, Commercial Account Executive or Senior Account Executive with a strong track record of managing commercial insurance clients.
- You will need enough technical knowledge to hold credible conversations around commercial risks and enough commercial awareness to understand where an account can be developed without compromising the relationship.
- Experience across areas such as property, liability, motor fleet, professional risks or wider corporate and SME insurance would all be relevant. The exact mix of your current portfolio matters less than your ability to build trust, retain clients and manage more complex commercial relationships properly.
Salary and benefits
- The salary range is £65,000 to £75,000, depending on experience and the level of portfolio you are currently managing.
- The most important part of the package is the opportunity to inherit an established client book with the backing of a larger insurance group, rather than being judged primarily on immediate new business production.
The next step
If you are currently managing a good commercial portfolio and are not actively looking to leave, that is not a problem. This is the sort of move that is worth understanding properly before making any decisions.
Get in touch for a confidential conversation and we can talk through the portfolio, expectations and team in more detail.
