- Description
If you are an experienced Commercial Account Handler who enjoys the technical and client servicing side of broking, but you want broader exposure to larger and more complex risks, this could be a strong next move.
We are recruiting for a Client Advisor to join a growing mid-market team in Reading, supporting a portfolio of established commercial and corporate clients. You will work closely with Client Executives and senior colleagues, taking responsibility for the day-to-day servicing of clients while becoming increasingly involved in renewal strategy, insurer negotiations and the wider management of their insurance programmes.
The opportunity
This is well suited to someone who has built a solid grounding in commercial insurance and now wants to develop within a more sophisticated mid-market environment. You will have access to experienced colleagues and specialist expertise, while still having the autonomy to build strong relationships with clients and insurers in your own right.
The team is continuing to develop, so there is also genuine scope to contribute ideas and help shape how clients are serviced rather than simply inheriting a rigid way of working.
What the role looks like
You will support a portfolio of mid-market and corporate clients across a range of commercial insurance classes, working alongside Client Executives to make sure renewals, adjustments and ongoing client requirements are handled properly and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day servicing of commercial and mid-market client accounts.
- Building relationships with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact throughout the policy year.
- Supporting the development and delivery of renewal and placement strategies.
- Preparing renewal information and presentations for clients and insurers.
- Working with insurers to obtain and negotiate suitable terms.
- Handling mid-term adjustments, queries and other ongoing servicing requirements.
- Coordinating with Client Executives, insurers and internal specialists to deliver the right outcome for each client.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring work is completed in line with regulatory and internal requirements.
Who this could suit
- You are likely to be working as a Commercial Account Handler, Client Advisor, Corporate Account Handler or in a similar broking role and will already have experience dealing with a varied commercial client base.
- You should have a good understanding of commercial insurance products and be comfortable discussing risks with clients and insurers. Previous mid-market or corporate experience would be useful, although someone from a strong general commercial background who is ready to step up in complexity would also be considered.
- Cert CII or progress towards further CII qualifications would be beneficial, but practical commercial broking experience and the ability to build credible relationships will carry more weight.
The business
- You will be joining a large and well-established insurance broking group with considerable market reach and access to specialist expertise across a broad range of commercial risks.
- Despite its scale, the culture is built around giving people responsibility for their work and encouraging them to develop their careers rather than restricting them to a narrow job description. There is a strong emphasis on professional development, collaboration and giving experienced insurance professionals the platform to progress.
Package and working pattern
- The salary is up to £40,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider benefits package and support towards professional insurance qualifications.
- The role is based in Reading with a hybrid working arrangement requiring three days per week in the office.
The next step
If you have commercial Account Handling experience and are considering a move into a broader mid-market environment, it is worth having a conversation even if you are not actively looking.
I can talk you through the team, the type of clients you would be working with and what the opportunity could offer your career before you decide whether you want to take it any further.
