Head of Underwriting

Schemes & MGA Partnerships

Are you a strategic underwriting leader with a passion for building and shaping high-performing teams in the schemes and MGA space? This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a market-recognised portfolio for a forward-thinking insurer known for its specialist expertise, empowerment culture, and commitment to delivering tailored solutions. Can be based in London, Colchester or Manchester.

The Opportunity

We're working with a highly respected insurer that has built a reputation for innovation and excellence across niche and specialist markets. As Head of Underwriting - Schemes & MGA Partnerships, you'll play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth, developing underwriting strategy, and leading a talented team operating across a diverse portfolio of delegated authority and MGA business.

You'll shape the underwriting vision for the MGA channel - balancing performance, product innovation, and partner relationships - while ensuring the delivery of ambitious growth plans aligned with strategic goals.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of experienced underwriters and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and accountability.
  • Own the underwriting and portfolio management strategy for the MGA sector, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability.
  • Underwrite complex and high-value cases while maintaining robust governance and underwriting discipline.
  • Drive performance improvement through data-led decision-making, portfolio analysis, and strategic action planning.
  • Develop and maintain strong trading relationships with key MGA and broker partners.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience operating at a senior level within the MGA or schemes space (either within or managing delegated authority arrangements).
  • Strong underwriting expertise with sound analytical and commercial judgement.
  • Confident decision-maker with the ability to navigate complex risks and deliver strategic outcomes.
  • Excellent people leadership skills - able to coach, motivate, and empower high-performing teams.
  • ACII qualified or working towards this.
  • Forward-thinking, results-driven, and comfortable leading change in a dynamic environment.

In return you will get:

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Great bonus structure
  • Extensive Benefits package
