- Description
You will inherit a corporate portfolio producing somewhere between £300,000 and £700,000 in income, depending on your experience, capability and preference. The book can be shaped around the right person rather than forcing somebody into a portfolio that does not suit them, with a sensible new business expectation of around £100,000 per year.
For someone who has spent the last 10 to 15 years building experience in the corporate insurance market and wants greater ownership of complex clients, this offers a strong balance between established income, new business and senior client responsibility.
The opportunity
This is a senior Corporate Account Director position within an established independent broking environment that handles larger and more complex commercial risks.
The clients need proper account leadership. These are not straightforward cases where one Account Executive can manage everything from renewal preparation through to placement and claims. You will be working on accounts supported by multiple people across broking, claims, placement and specialist disciplines, with responsibility for making sure the overall client strategy comes together.
You will be the senior relationship lead, understanding the wider risk picture, coordinating the team and making sure clients receive joined-up advice rather than a collection of individual insurance products.
What the role involves
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing an inherited corporate book producing between £300,000 and £700,000 in income.
- Leading relationships with larger and more complex commercial clients.
- Coordinating multi-person account teams across broking, claims, placement and specialist areas.
- Developing renewal strategy and presenting recommendations to senior client stakeholders.
- Handling complex insurance programmes across multiple classes of business.
- Leading tender and formal bid processes for prospective corporate clients.
- Identifying opportunities to develop existing accounts through additional risk and insurance solutions.
- Delivering approximately £100,000 of new business income per year.
- Supporting and mentoring more junior Account Executives and broking colleagues.
- Building strong relationships with insurers and negotiating effectively on behalf of clients.
Who this role could suit
- You are likely to have around 10 to 15 years of commercial insurance broking experience and already be operating as a Corporate Account Director, Senior Account Executive or in a comparable corporate client role.
- Technical strength is important. You need to be comfortable dealing with larger risks where the insurance programme may involve several classes, multiple markets and a broader team around the account.
- You should also understand how genuinely complex corporate accounts are managed. If your current clients require several people to service them properly, with different specialists contributing to the overall relationship, that experience will translate well.
- Previous involvement in tenders, formal pitches and competitive bid processes is also important. You will need to be able to articulate a proposition, understand what matters to the prospective client and bring together the right internal people to win the business.
Why consider it
- The inherited portfolio gives you immediate responsibility and income to work with, while the range of £300,000 to £700,000 allows the business to tailor the starting point around your experience and appetite.
- There is still a clear expectation to grow, but the £100,000 new business target is designed to sit alongside proper management of an established corporate book rather than turning the position into a pure production role.
- For someone interested in taking on a larger new business target, there is flexibility around the £115,000 salary ceiling. The business is prepared to look beyond that level where the individual can demonstrate the track record and commercial ambition to justify a broader growth remit.
- There is also a leadership element to the role. You will be expected to mentor junior colleagues and help develop the capability of people around you, without moving away from clients and becoming a full-time people manager.
Salary and benefits
- The salary is up to £115,000, with flexibility above this for someone prepared and able to take on a higher new business expectation.
- The size of the inherited book will be agreed around the successful person, with portfolios ranging from approximately £300,000 to £700,000 in income.
