- Description
If you are already handling commercial property or real estate insurance and want to move towards larger, more complex corporate accounts, this is the sort of opportunity worth looking at properly.
We are recruiting a Real Estate Account Handler for an established commercial insurance broker in Central London. The role sits within a specialist team handling substantial real estate clients, where the policies, property portfolios and insurer negotiations are more involved than the typical SME property account.
The opportunity
You will support the servicing and broking of a portfolio of corporate real estate clients, working alongside experienced Account Executives and broking colleagues.
The work will involve sizeable property portfolios and more complex insurance programmes, so there is plenty here for somebody who has reached a point where smaller commercial cases are becoming repetitive. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, gain greater exposure to the London insurance market and become comfortable handling increasingly sophisticated risks.
There is also a strong infrastructure around the team, so you will not be expected to work everything out for yourself from day one.
What the role involves
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Account Executives with the management of corporate real estate insurance accounts.
- Handling renewals, mid-term adjustments and ongoing client servicing throughout the policy year.
- Preparing renewal information, presentations and insurer submissions.
- Reviewing policy documentation and checking that cover reflects the client's requirements.
- Liaising with insurers and clients to resolve queries and keep work progressing.
- Working across commercial property and associated covers relevant to real estate clients.
- Maintaining accurate client records and ensuring servicing standards are met.
- Building your understanding of larger property portfolios and more complex insurance programmes.
Who this role could suit
- You are likely to be working as an Account Handler, Commercial Account Handler, Property Account Handler or Real Estate Account Handler within an insurance broker.
- Previous real estate experience would clearly be useful, although somebody with a solid commercial insurance background and meaningful exposure to property risks could also be relevant.
- You should be comfortable dealing with renewals and policy administration, speaking with insurers and supporting clients throughout the insurance cycle. Experience of larger corporate cases would be helpful, but the role can also provide a sensible route into that end of the market for someone whose technical foundations are already strong.
- Progress towards Cert CII or further insurance qualifications would be welcomed, although practical broking experience and a good understanding of commercial insurance will carry more weight than qualifications alone.
Why consider it?
- For an Account Handler who has been well looked after by their current broker, changing jobs needs to offer more than a slightly different desk and another portfolio of similar clients.
- The attraction here is the quality and scale of the work. You will be operating within a specialist real estate environment, dealing with corporate clients and developing experience that can strengthen your longer-term career in commercial insurance.
- It could particularly suit somebody who wants to become a senior handler, move further into corporate broking or eventually develop towards an Account Executive position, while continuing to build proper technical experience first.
Salary and package
- The salary is £35,000 to £40,000, depending on your existing experience and the level of real estate and corporate insurance exposure you can bring.
- The role is based in Central London, making it particularly accessible for candidates already working within the London insurance market or looking to move into it.
The next step
If the role sounds relevant but you are not actively looking to leave your current broker, that is absolutely fine. A confidential conversation can give you a clearer idea of the team, the type of real estate accounts involved and whether the move would genuinely add something to your career before you make any decisions.
