- Description
If you have built strong commercial Account Handling experience and are ready to work with larger, more complex clients, this is a good opportunity to move further into the mid-corporate market without losing the hands-on client involvement that makes the role interesting.
You will be working with established commercial clients where individual account premiums can reach £100,000, supporting experienced Account Executives and taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of their insurance programmes.
The role is based in Watford and is particularly well suited to someone living locally across Watford, Hertfordshire or North London who wants to develop their technical experience within a stable, experienced commercial broking team.
The opportunity
This is a genuine Account Handling position rather than a heavily transactional servicing role. You will work closely with Account Executives throughout the renewal cycle, becoming involved in renewal strategy, insurer negotiations, client meetings and the ongoing management of more substantial commercial accounts.
You will have the autonomy expected of an experienced handler, while still having access to senior colleagues when dealing with more technical or unusual risks.
What the role looks like
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day servicing of a portfolio of mid-corporate commercial clients.
- Handling accounts with premiums ranging up to approximately £100,000.
- Working directly with Account Executives on renewal strategy and client requirements.
- Preparing renewal presentations, market submissions and supporting documentation.
- Negotiating terms with insurers and working through coverage issues where required.
- Managing mid-term adjustments, policy queries and ongoing client requests.
- Reviewing policy documentation to ensure cover accurately reflects the client's requirements.
- Building strong working relationships with clients, insurers and internal colleagues.
- Supporting client meetings and contributing technical input where appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring work meets regulatory and internal standards.
Who this could suit
- You will ideally have at least five years' commercial insurance Account Handling experience and already be comfortable managing clients with a reasonable degree of complexity.
- You could currently be working as a Senior Commercial Account Handler, Corporate Account Handler, Client Advisor or in a similar broking position.
- A strong understanding of core commercial covers is important, alongside the confidence to deal directly with insurers and clients. Experience handling mid-market or corporate risks would be particularly relevant, although an experienced commercial handler looking to step up in client size and complexity could also fit well.
- You will need to be within sensible travelling distance of Watford, as the team works together in the office three days per week.
The business
- You will be joining an established commercial brokerage where client relationships and technical broking remain central to the way accounts are managed.
- The environment should appeal to someone who values working closely with experienced Account Executives, wants exposure to more substantial commercial risks and would rather develop their technical capability than move into a heavily sales-focused position.
- There is also scope to continue progressing as your experience with larger and more complex clients develops.
Package and working pattern
- The salary is up to £50,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider benefits package.
- The role is based in Watford with a hybrid working pattern of three days per week in the office, so it is best suited to someone based locally across Watford, Hertfordshire or North London.
The next step
If you have five or more years of commercial Account Handling experience and are looking for greater exposure to mid-corporate clients and more technically involved accounts, it would be worth a confidential conversation.
I can talk you through the portfolio, the level of Account Executive interaction and the wider team structure before you decide whether you want to take things any further.
