Description

If you are an Account Executive who enjoys building relationships properly, growing income without turning every conversation into a hard sell and keeping hold of clients once you have won them, this should be worth a look. This Bristol-based role would suit someone who is commercially minded, good with clients and looking for a broking environment where growth still matters, but not at the expense of retention or service.

The attraction here is the balance. There is a clear appetite for growth, but this is not a role where new business is treated as the only thing that counts. You will be expected to develop accounts, win opportunities and build your profile in the market, while also looking after clients well enough that they stay with you. For a good commercial Account Executive, that usually makes for a much more credible and sustainable proposition.

The opportunity

This is a commercial insurance Account Executive role in Bristol with a clear emphasis on relationship-led growth. It should appeal to someone who wants to win business in the right way, build a book with some substance to it and retain clients through advice, responsiveness and consistency rather than noise.

The wider business behind the role has real scale and momentum, which gives the opportunity more weight than a standard regional broking move. It has expanded significantly through acquisitions and now operates across a broad office network in the UK and Europe, while continuing to trade under its existing brand following its acquisition by BMS Group in December 2024. That should give the right person confidence that there is backing behind the proposition, along with the kind of platform that helps good brokers compete more effectively in the market.

What the role involves

  • You will be responsible for managing and developing commercial insurance clients, with a remit that combines growth and retention.
  • That means building relationships with existing clients, identifying opportunities to strengthen and broaden accounts, and bringing in new business where there is a sensible commercial fit.
  • You will work closely with internal broking and support teams, but this is very much a client-facing Account Executive role.
  • It needs someone who can build trust, handle renewals thoughtfully, negotiate with insurers and stay close enough to the client to understand what matters to them commercially.
  • If you prefer building long-term income through stable relationships rather than relying on constant churn, this should feel like a better fit.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of commercial insurance clients
  • Retain and grow existing accounts through strong relationship management and sound advice
  • Generate new business opportunities across Bristol and the wider South West market
  • Handle client meetings, renewal strategy and insurer negotiations
  • Work closely with internal broking teams to deliver a high standard of service
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell and deepen client relationships where it makes commercial sense
  • Build a strong reputation as a trusted commercial insurance adviser in the regional market

Who this role could suit

  • A Commercial Account Executive who wants a better platform and stronger market backing
  • A broker who enjoys new business, but takes just as much pride in retaining and developing clients
  • Someone with experience handling SME, mid-market or broader commercial insurance accounts
  • An insurance professional with a strong client manner and a commercially sensible approach
  • Someone based in or around Bristol who wants to build a long-term presence in the local market
  • A broker who prefers steady, relationship-led growth over a purely target-driven environment

You do not need to be the loudest person in the room to do well here. You do need to be credible, client-focused and able to build confidence over time.
