- Description
If you are an experienced commercial insurance professional who enjoys creating your own opportunities and wants a role where new business is genuinely the priority, this could be a strong next move.
The focus is on building a portfolio from the ground up, developing relationships across the commercial market and converting opportunities into long-term clients. There is particular appetite for someone with experience or strong connections in property-related risks, although a broader commercial insurance background is equally relevant.
You will have the backing of an established team, access to specialist expertise and the freedom to develop business in a way that suits your network and market.
The opportunity
This is a heavily development-led position for someone who is comfortable taking ownership of their own pipeline.
You will be expected to identify prospects, create introductions, build relationships with decision-makers and lead opportunities through to placement. Rather than inheriting a substantial existing portfolio, the attraction is the chance to build something of your own while having experienced broking support around you.
The role should particularly suit someone who is commercially minded, self-sufficient and comfortable operating without a heavily prescribed sales process.
What the role looks like
Your responsibilities will include:
- Generating new commercial insurance opportunities through prospecting, referrals, networking and introducer relationships.
- Building and managing a sustainable pipeline from initial contact through to conversion.
- Developing relationships with business owners, property professionals and senior commercial decision-makers.
- Identifying client risks and working with broking colleagues to structure appropriate insurance programmes.
- Leading new business presentations and negotiations with prospective clients.
- Working with insurers to secure competitive and suitable terms.
- Building long-term relationships with clients once business has been won.
- Identifying opportunities to broaden accounts across additional covers and specialist areas.
- Maintaining accurate pipeline information and working towards agreed growth targets.
Who this could suit
- You are likely to be an experienced Account Executive, Development Executive, Commercial Broker or similarly client-facing insurance professional with a strong understanding of the commercial market.
- You should have a track record of generating new business or clear evidence that you can create opportunities through your own relationships and activity.
- Experience within property owners, real estate, construction or related commercial risks would be particularly useful, especially if you already have relationships within those sectors. However, this is not restricted to a property-only background and broader commercial insurance experience will be considered.
- The key requirement is that you are a self-starter who is comfortable opening doors, developing your own network and taking responsibility for building a portfolio rather than waiting for leads to be provided.
The business
- You will be joining a specialist insurance environment with strong links into the wider commercial property and professional services market.
- That creates an interesting platform for a development-focused Executive, particularly where clients require advice across property, commercial and more complex insurance risks. You will have access to experienced insurance professionals and a broader network that can support introductions and help you compete for opportunities that may be difficult to access in a smaller standalone brokerage.
- The culture is well suited to someone who values autonomy but still wants the resources and credibility of an established business behind them.
Package and working pattern
- The basic salary is expected to be between £60,000 and £80,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider benefits and incentive package.
- The role is based in London with an expectation of three days per week in the office, giving you regular access to the wider team while still leaving flexibility for prospect meetings, networking and home working.
The next step
If you are an experienced commercial insurance professional who wants to build your own portfolio and would value a platform with strong connections into the property and wider business community, it would be worth a confidential conversation.
I can talk you through the growth expectations, the support available and the type of opportunities the wider business can help create before you decide whether you want to explore it further.
