- Description
If you are an experienced Commercial Account Executive who would value the security of inheriting a substantial book, while still having the freedom to develop it in your own way, this is a rare opportunity to step into an established portfolio with a proper handover.
You will inherit a book generating around £300,000 to £400,000 of income, with a structured transition from a retiring Account Director who has built long-standing relationships across the portfolio. That gives you the opportunity to understand the clients properly, retain continuity and establish yourself before taking full ownership.
The opportunity
The immediate priority is successful succession.
You will work alongside the existing Account Director during the transition period, getting to know the clients, their businesses, their insurance programmes and the relationships that have been built over time.
From there, you will take responsibility for retaining and developing the portfolio, identifying opportunities to broaden existing relationships and generating additional new business where appropriate.
The client base includes more complex commercial risks, and experience around medical malpractice, healthcare or related professional exposures would be beneficial. It is not essential, however, provided you have strong commercial insurance experience and the technical confidence to handle larger or more specialist accounts.
What the role looks like
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of an established commercial portfolio generating approximately £300,000 to £400,000 of income.
- Working closely with a retiring Account Director through a planned client handover.
- Building relationships with existing clients and maintaining continuity throughout the transition.
- Leading renewal strategy, client meetings and insurer discussions.
- Understanding clients' businesses, exposures and wider risk management requirements.
- Working with Account Handlers and broking colleagues to ensure renewals and ongoing servicing are managed effectively.
- Identifying opportunities to develop existing accounts through additional covers and specialist solutions.
- Generating new business through referrals, networking and your own professional relationships.
- Managing more complex commercial risks and providing credible advice to senior client stakeholders.
Who this could suit
- You are likely to be an established Commercial Account Executive, Client Executive or Account Director with a strong background in commercial insurance broking.
- You should be comfortable managing a sizeable portfolio and dealing directly with senior decision-makers, while having the technical knowledge to lead discussions around more complex insurance programmes.
- Previous medical malpractice, healthcare or specialist professional insurance experience would be useful, although it is not a prerequisite. A strong broader commercial background with the ability and willingness to develop specialist knowledge would also be considered.
- The succession element is important, so this role will suit someone who understands the value of established relationships and can take over a long-standing book without unsettling the clients.
The business
- You will be joining an established commercial insurance business with a strong local presence in Newbury and access to wider specialist capability across the UK and international insurance market.
- The local team handles commercial and corporate risks across a broad range of industries, while having the resources to bring in specialist expertise where clients require something beyond a standard commercial placement.
- For an experienced Account Executive, the combination of an established portfolio, experienced internal support and broader market capability provides a strong platform for both retention and future growth.
Package and working pattern
- The salary is expected to be between £60,000 and £80,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider benefits and incentive package.
- The role is based in Newbury with an expectation of three days per week in the office, alongside time spent with clients and working remotely.
The next step
If you are an established Account Executive who would prefer to inherit a meaningful book with a proper transition rather than start again from zero, it would be worth a confidential conversation.
I can talk you through the size and make-up of the portfolio, the handover arrangements and how important specialist medical malpractice experience is before you decide whether you want to explore it further.
