- Description
If you are an experienced Commercial Account Handler who enjoys the technical side of broking and wants to be trusted with good-quality clients, this is a role that should make sense without needing to dress it up.
You will be joining an established commercial broking operation in Sheffield with a substantial presence in the South Yorkshire market and access to wider specialist insurance expertise. The salary is £35,000-£42,000 depending on experience, and the role is aimed at somebody who can take genuine ownership of a portfolio rather than simply process renewals around an Account Executive.
The opportunity
This is a senior handling position where your technical judgement and client management experience will be valued. You will work closely with Account Executives while having direct involvement with clients, insurers and the placement of a broad range of commercial insurance risks.
The Sheffield operation has long-established roots in commercial broking, with experience across areas including commercial, motor and liability risks. That gives the role a good degree of variety and makes it particularly relevant to somebody who has built a broad commercial lines background and prefers dealing with proper business risks rather than high-volume transactional work.
What the role involves
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of commercial insurance clients, making sure renewals are properly prepared, risks are presented accurately and clients receive a consistently strong service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing renewals, mid-term adjustments and ongoing servicing across a portfolio of commercial clients.
- Working closely with Account Executives to understand client requirements and prepare for renewal meetings.
- Gathering and reviewing risk information before approaching insurers.
- Preparing insurer submissions and negotiating terms across the commercial insurance market.
- Reviewing quotations, policy wordings and renewal documentation for accuracy and suitability.
- Speaking directly with clients regarding cover, renewals, documentation and day-to-day insurance matters.
- Building productive relationships with insurers and broking colleagues.
- Supporting less experienced members of the team where your technical knowledge can help.
Who this role could suit
- You are likely to be an experienced Commercial Account Handler, Senior Account Handler, Commercial Broker or technically strong Insurance Account Handler with a good grounding in UK commercial insurance.
- You should be comfortable handling a varied portfolio and dealing with common commercial covers such as property, liability, commercial combined, motor fleet and associated business insurance. You do not need to know every market inside out, but you should understand how to manage a renewal properly and know when a risk needs more thought than simply obtaining another set of terms.
- This could be particularly relevant if you have reached the stage where you are taking on more complicated work but your current salary, title or level of responsibility has not moved with you.
Why consider it?
- There is enough scale behind the business to give you access to a broad insurance market and specialist support, while the Sheffield team has genuine roots in the local broking market.
- For an experienced handler, that matters. You can concentrate on developing your technical ability and looking after clients properly without needing to move into an Account Executive role simply because it appears to be the only route to progression.
- At £35,000-£42,000, the salary also gives experienced Account Handlers a realistic reason to compare the role with what they have now.
