- Description
If you have built a strong career in personal lines broking and are already the person colleagues turn to when a client issue, technical question or difficult renewal needs sorting, this could be a sensible next move.
This Personal Lines Team Leader role in Hampshire offers a salary of £35,000-£45,000 and combines hands-on client work with responsibility for supporting and developing an established team. It should suit somebody who still enjoys the insurance side of the job and wants greater influence over how a team performs, rather than moving into a management position that takes them completely away from clients.
The opportunity
You will take day-to-day responsibility for a personal lines team, helping maintain service standards, supporting colleagues with more complex work and making sure clients continue to receive knowledgeable, consistent advice.
This is not simply a supervisory position. You will remain close to the insurance work itself, so you will need a sound understanding of personal lines products and the confidence to step into more complicated renewals, coverage discussions or client situations when required.
The role gives an experienced personal lines professional the chance to use what they have learned over the years while taking on greater responsibility for people, performance and the overall quality of the client experience.
What the role involves
You will work closely with the wider management team while taking ownership of the performance and development of your own team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supporting a team of Personal Lines Account Handlers and insurance professionals.
- Managing workloads and helping the team maintain strong service standards across new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments.
- Supporting colleagues with technical queries, difficult renewals and more complex client requirements.
- Monitoring performance and identifying where individuals need additional coaching, training or support.
- Holding regular one-to-one conversations and helping team members develop their insurance knowledge and confidence.
- Maintaining your own involvement with clients where appropriate, particularly on more complex or sensitive cases.
- Helping ensure insurer relationships are used effectively and that clients are placed with appropriate markets.
- Working with senior colleagues to improve processes, service standards and the overall performance of the personal lines operation.
Who this role could suit
- You are likely to come from a personal lines broking background and already have a strong understanding of products such as home, motor and associated private client insurance.
- You may currently be a Personal Lines Team Leader, Senior Account Handler, Senior Broker or an experienced Personal Lines Account Handler who has gradually taken on responsibility for coaching colleagues and helping manage the team around you.
- Previous management experience would be useful, but the quality of your personal lines knowledge and your ability to bring the best out of other people will matter just as much. You should be comfortable dealing with clients yourself and credible enough technically that colleagues will trust your judgement when they need support.
Why consider it?
- For somebody who has spent several years building their personal lines experience, progression can sometimes mean choosing between staying technical or moving into management. This role allows you to do both.
- You will have genuine responsibility for the team while remaining connected to clients and the insurance work itself. There is also enough structure around the role to give you support as a manager rather than leaving you to deal with every operational issue alone.
- At £35,000-£45,000, the package also reflects the level of responsibility involved and gives experienced personal lines professionals a realistic reason to consider whether their current role is still giving them enough scope.
Salary and benefits
- Basic salary of £35,000-£45,000, depending on experience.
- A senior position within an established personal lines operation.
- Responsibility for leading and developing an experienced team.
- Continued involvement in technical insurance and client work.
- Support from the wider management structure.
- Scope to develop further as a people leader while retaining your personal lines specialism.
